Part of a group of negatives taken for December 20, 1960, Arkansas Gazette article "Columnist Stands on River Bottom," B1. Charles H. Wagner, an engineer for the U.S. Government, led Deane and the Arkansas Gem, Mineral, and Geology Society on a tour of the sandstone bed on the bottom of the Arkansas River at the Dardanelle Dam, near Dardanelle, Yell County, Arkansas in December of 1960. The bottom of the river was exposed in a cofferdam, where the water had been pumped out in preparation for pouring concert during the construction on the Dardanelle Dam.
